Key Stage 1 News

22nd June 2018
This week in Year 1, as part of International Week, we took a trip to Japan! We identified the flag of Japan, learned about the traditions of origami crafts and explored traditional Japanese clothing. On Thursday morning we made our own sushi using a mixture of vegetables, rice and seaweed. The children used graters, knives and peelers to prepare their dish. In English this week we have been reading poems about growing up. The children explored ways in which they have changed over the years and created their own poems. In Science we have been learning about seed dispersal. The children used pictures and simple sentences to explain how seeds can be transported from one place to another, for example in the wind, along rivers and streams and by an animal’s fur or feathers. Thank you all very much for your generous donations of items for our summer fayre which will run between 2pm and 4pm of Tuesday next week. We hope that you can get the opportunity to come along.
Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed International focus week. 2JP looked at Argentina and South Korea, while 2EA found out about Peru and England. All of our learning this week was focused around these countries. In English we learned how to write like travel journalists and produced some wonderful Wow writing tempting the reader to visit our countries. We spent some time in the Create room too this week. 2JP made empanadas which the children really enjoyed but our favourite Argentinian treat was dulce de leche on toast! 2EA created Peruvian alfajores which were similar to shortbread with caramel in the middle. Check out our Twitter page for photos! Next Friday (29th) is our trip to the Rising Sun Country Park and House of Objects. If you have not returned your child's permission slip this must be returned on Monday. We sent a letter home yesterday outlining what the children should wear. If you have any queries please let us know.
