Setting up the site

Key Stage two School Council members and some additional Year Six's loved putting different skills to work to set up Cragside's new forest school site!

The children learnt safe ways to use tools such as loppers, pruning saws, rakes and small spades to clear spaces, build fences and create shelters.  They also learnt about the safe use of fire, using it to cook scones, make hot drinks from the kelly kettle and toast marshmallows by the fire.

The children thrived off and loved all the hands on learning activities offered throughout the day, which all created opportunities to achieve, work together as a team, develop confidence and build self-esteem.  We look forward to visiting the site lots more in the future, particularly during ECO week!
