Football Champions!

1st May 2019
Cragside entered three teams into the annual Year 5 football tournament at Cramlington Learning Village with a place at the Northumberland School Games finals up for grabs. Cragside Red (Leon, Shea, Lewis, Dan, Ross, Shona, Lucas, James, Harry and Olly) competed in the cup competition with 5 other local schools. The teams were split into 2 groups of 3 with the winners of each group contesting the final.
During the group stage, Cragside won 1 and drew 1. As Northburn had an identical record, the 2 sides faced each other in a dramatic penalty shoot out to see who would go through to the final with Cragside winning 2-1. In the final, Cragside faced Hareside. The game was level at 1-1, but some excellent and determined play from Cragside lead to a late winner to win the cup and a place in the Northumberland School Games Finals. Well done! Cragside White (Olly L, Olly Q, Will, Riley, Harrison, Lucas W, Luke, David and Owen B) and Cragside Black (Jack, Owen R, Zach, Hollie, Oliver H, Jake, Connor, Alfie, Kenzie and Flynn) took part in the Shield competition. Cragside Black won their first game 1-0 and were unlucky to lose their other games as they played some excellent football and showed brilliant skills and determination in all their games. Cragside White won 3 of their 4 games and drew their last game recording a goal difference of +19 over their 4 games. Cragside White were the winners of the shield by quite a margin with their goal difference, an amazing achievement by a team made up entirely of Year 4 children.
Well done to everyone involved for fantastic team performances, everyone showed great sportsmanship and respect throughout the tournament and represented our school brilliantly. Well done, Cragside. We would also like to say thank you to the many parents who were able to come and show their support and offer encouragement to the children.
