23rd February 2016
On Tuesday the Year 4 and 5 boys took part in the Sainsbury's school games Year 5 football competition. The boys played two very competitive fixtures.
Burnside 1-0 Cragside
Cragside's first game was against Burnside, a match which saw them with the lion's share of possession and chances but unable to find the back of the net. They can very close with Jake Perry and Jayden Broadbent forcing good saves from the Burnside 'keeper while Matthew Lacey saw a close range header bounce back off the crossbar. Burnside managed to capitalise with a swift counter attack to bury the ball into Cragside's bottom left corner.
Cragside 3-0 Northburn
Cragside found their scoring boots between the first and second game and again dominated their opponents in terms of possession and chances. They made their chances pay with midfield maestro Callum West giving them an instant lead with a composed finish after great build up play from the kick off.
Jake Perry added two more with long range shots. The first flew past the Northburn 'keeper into the bottom left corner giving him no chance. The second of his strikes found it's way through the goalkeepers legs and into the back of the net to give the boys a comfortable lead. There were also very impressive displays in defence by Liam Barnard, Clark Scott and Goalkeeper Ben Metcalf.
Unfortunately, due to a booking issue the tournament was forced to end early so the boys were unable to fulfil of all their fixtures on the night. There will be a replay of the tournament in the coming weeks and we will inform parents as soon as possible of the date, time and venue. Many thanks for all your support. Mr Beck & Mr Dickinson.
