URGENT School Closure 5th Jan 2021

4th January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Apologies to email you later in the evening. Like you, I have watched the television announcement about schools at 8pm tonight. It is really upsetting that the lateness of the announcement and the fact that the measures start tomorrow does not allow for the careful planning and strategic organisation of groups that are required for tomorrow (Tuesday 5th January).

Sadly, I feel that the only measure that we have for Tuesday 5th January is to close the school to all children. Staff will use tomorrow to set up online systems for learning for this week to support the learning needs of our children who are faced with another block of time away from school. We will also look at practical measures such as organising booking systems for the children of key workers and parents whose children are identified as being vulnerable. We need to get the groups set up carefully and organise staffing for these groups. The provision for vulnerable and key worker children in school will start from Wednesday 6th January.

Closing on Tuesday is the very last thing I would want to do. I am very consious of the difficulties that this will have on our families. I am so upset tonight to have to do this, but the lateness of the announcement does not leave enough time to set up the required systems for tomorrow.

During Tuesday the following things will happen:

  • You will be contacted by your child's teacher (via SchoolsBuddy) with information about what home learning will look like this week. Our aim is to have some face to face (online) sessions each week as well as making use of Google classroom and Tapestry to set work for the children to complete. Your child should hopefully have his/her planner at home which will have information about logins to some of our online learning sites such as: Mathletics, My Maths, Active Learn and Busy Things.
  • A Google form will be sent out tomorrow for families to book children of key workers into school if this is required and also children deemed to be vulnerable.
  • A message will come out about how to access free school meals for families who are entitled to free school meals.

I am so incredibly sorry that we are faced with another period of time where our children are unable to come to school. We will do all we can to seek to support all our children during this time. They are all so very precious to us all and we will do all we can to support them during these next few weeks where they are away from school.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time for us all,

Paul Rusby
